Poker hand of the week 3/5/08
For this week’s hand of the week, I wanted to tell you folks about a recent hand I played at my local card room.2008-03-05
For this week’s hand of the week, I wanted to tell you folks about a recent hand I played at my local card room. The hand itself was pretty amusing in my opinion. The game was $1-$2 no-limit. Recently, a new group of players, some businessmen began coming by and let’s just say they weren’t the strongest players in the world. That’s putting it nicely. In reality, these guys were just about hopeless against us.
In this particular hand, I had 6c-9h in the big blind. One of the businessmen was on the button and the field folded to him. He calls the $2. I couldn’t imagine why he limp there, but he did. The small blind folded and there was $5 in the pot. The flop was 9c-9d-Qs. I checked and he bet $3. I check-raised to $10 expecting him to just fold. He instacalled. I figured he had a Queen. So there is $25 in the pot.
The turn is the 9s giving me Quad 9’s. Whatever he had was irrelevant. I figured he might fold to a smallish bet so I bet $20 with the stone-cold nuts. Incredibly, he instacalled again!
The river might have been a 4. Honestly, I have no idea what it was. With $65 in the pot, I just wanted to figure out how much I could bet. Well, my initial read was that this guy is clueless and he has a lot of money. So I moved all in for $300 into the $65 pot. He didn’t instacall this time. No, this time he waited 3 seconds before calling. I showed my 9 and he shows Ace Queen.
Let me ask you this folks. Even if you thought I was bluffing there, is it really worth it to pay 1 to 4 to find out? Of course not, but I’m sure glad he did.
Until next time, may the chips fall your way
